Upper Peninsula Environmental Coalition hosts discussion on intentional communities
UPPER PENINSULA — The Upper Peninsula Environmental Coalition hosted a livestream discussion Thursday evening on the topic of intentional communities.
As part of the coalition’s “Creating Virtual Communities in the UP” series, Michigan Technological University professor Chelsea Schelly spoke on planned residential communities in the United States. She noted the sustainability and resilience of each collaborative living style.
The discussion then moved to an analysis of how aspects of planned communities could be applied in the Upper Peninsula. Schelly also discussed the opportunities and challenges those aspects would bring, both socially and environmentally.
A question and answer session with Schelly was held following her presentation.
“Intentional Communities: Living Sustainably with a Shared Purpose” and past livestreams are available to view on the coalition’s Facebook page.
