Teal Lake Pizzeria offering grocery grab bags filled with essential items
NEGAUNEE — A local pizza place is helping the community obtain essential items while working to reduce the spread of COVID-19.
Teal Lake Pizzeria in Negaunee partners with Sysco for the restaurant’s groceries. A Sysco representative suggested the idea of offering customers grocery grab bags filled with essential supplies.
Teal Lake Pizzeria owner Mary Reed says this service is intended to make it easier for people to get all the groceries they need, and to help prevent the spread of the coronavirus in grocery stores.
“I’m nervous about going into the grocery store, and it’s next to impossible to get curbside pickup without waiting days and days,” says Reed. “So I thought this would be a really good way for people to be able to grab some essentials.”
Reed says they’ve had a great response from the community so far. Many people are even purchasing grab bags to donate to someone in need.
“Our first two sales were people saying, ‘Hey, I want to buy groceries for somebody who needs them,’” Reed says. “We’ve also had people call and ask us to deliver to shut-in relatives. It’s just been incredible; I’m really amazed at this community. And it’s really heartwarming to feel like an important part of the community, because people are looking after us as well.”
A grab bag costs $30 and includes items such as fruits and vegetables, milk, eggs, and toilet paper. Customers can order a bag by phone for delivery from 5:00 to 7:00 p.m., or for pickup at the window. More information can be found on Teal Lake Pizzeria’s website or Facebook page.
