Marquette home destroyed by fire

MARQUETTE — On Saturday, March 7th, at approximately 11:45 am, Officers from the Marquette Police Department and the Marquette Fire Department were dispatched to 528 W. Baraga Ave. in response to a structure fire. Upon arrival to the residence, officers observed the structure was fully engulfed.

The residence was evacuated of occupants and the fire was extinguished in 25 minutes, and firefighters stayed on the scene for several more hours. Two occupants of the residence were transported to UPHS for injuries. It is unknown as to the extent of their injuries at this time.

A neighboring house sustained minor damage due to proximity and high heat. The cause of the fire is still under investigation.

The Marquette Police and Fire Departments were assisted by Chocolay Township Fire Department, Marquette Township Fire Department, UPHS EMS and the Michigan State Police Fire Marshall.
