Historic Vista Theater to present “Escanaba in da Moonlight” beginning this weekend
NEGAUNEE — If you’re looking for some great entertainment over the next couple weekends, one Negaunee theater has a perfect solution. The Historic Vista Theater is will be presenting Escanaba in da Moonlight beginning this weekend.
Written by Jeff Daniels, Escanaba in da Moonlight is a play that is better known to most as a film of the same name.
Aidan Pietila, who plays the role of Reuben Soady in the Vista production, says it’s the tale of one Yooper trying to shoot his first buck.
“He’s known as a buckless Yooper,” explained Pietila. “He’s never shot a buck in his life, and he’s 35 years old. So the whole dilemma is everyone thinks he’s cursed, and he’s afraid that he’s going to go down as the oldest Soady in history never to bag a buck. So that’s looming over his head and we’re trying to get him his first buck.”
Because this production hits so close to home, the Vista is expecting a great audience. Pietila says he’s excited to share this story with the community.
“The shows that are local to us really draw in the crowds, and it’s one that you just don’t want to miss out on,” said Pietila. “It’s going to be hilarious. I can’t wait to see the audience and hear their laughs from the show. It’ll be amazing.”
The first showing of Escanaba in da Moonlight was scheduled for March 5, but due to weather conditions the first showing will be on Friday, March 6, at 7:00 p.m. Other show times and ticket information can be found here.
