Woman rescued after falling through ice near Carp River
MARQUETTE — The Marquette City Police Department released information in regards to a woman who fell into the water near the mouth of the Carp River Sunday afternoon. According to the police, officers were called to the area near the Carp River and US-41 South around 1:00 p.m. Sunday after a woman fell through the ice and into the water.
Responding officers found a 51-year-old Marquette woman in chest deep water, unable to get out on her own. Officers used a water rescue flotation device to pull her from the water to safety. The woman said her dog had also fallen in and was missing. A search for the dog was performed but unsuccessful.
The Marquette City Fire Department said the woman was taken to UP Health System-Marquette and released a short time later with no injuries.
The Marquette City Fire Department, UPHS-Marquette EMS, Chocolay Township Fire Department, U.S. Coast Guard and Marquette County Rescue 131 all assisted.
