Marquette County students invited to participate in Dog Dayz of Winter Art Show
MARQUETTE COUNTY — The City of Marquette Arts & Culture Center and the Lake Superior Art Association are hosting an art show for young people. The art show will coincide with the UP200 sled dog race.
All Marquette County students in kindergarten through 8th grade are invited to submit their work for the third annual Dog Dayz of Winter Art Show. The show is open to both public school students and homeschooled students. The theme of the show is broad, so students are welcome to submit any pieces related to winter, animals, and dog sledding.
Exhibit chairperson and board member of the Lake Superior Art Association Madeline Goodman says that the Dog Dayz of Winter Art Show is a great way to get people interested in art at a young age. She also says that it could even lead them to more opportunities later in life.
“It’s a huge part of the art community,” said Goodman. “Start young. Also it’s to start encouraging younger kids to show off their work. It really affects all realms of life, from computer science to engineering. It’s all about those motor skills at a young age and letting those creative juices flow.”
Submissions can be dropped off at the Arts & Culture Center from February 12-13, from 1:00 to 6:00 p.m. An artist reception will be held on the exhibit’s opening day, February 15, from 1 to 3 p.m. The exhibit will be on display for two weeks. Art of all mediums is welcomed.
Madeline Goodman is also the owner of MadGoodies Studio in Marquette. You can visit her website or Facebook page for more information on her studio, including upcoming events such as Valentine’s Tarot Card Readings on February 12, from 5:00 to 7:00 p.m.
