Lake Superior Village Youth and Family Center hosts Christmas dinner
MARQUETTE — The Lake Superior Village Youth and Family Center hosted a large family dinner at their center with many local partners helping with some of the preparations.
The Peter White Public Library, Art Van Furniture and Household Appliance as well as grant money from Census all played a big role in making this all possible.
“We just enjoy getting all of our families together at this time of year and celebrate it with them,” explained Kelsey Roy, Program Director at the Lake Superior Village Youth and Family Center. “Some of them may have a lot of family nearby and some of them may not. Other may have the means to have a large holiday meal and some of them may not. So this way we all get to celebrate and we all get to spend time with each other and we get to just spread holiday cheer.”
For this event young kids and their families got to have a meal, gifts and a chance to talk to Santa. There was even some story time entertainment hosted by the Peter White Public Library after the dinner. Art Van Furniture and Household Appliances also had been busy with other volunteer work and donations around the community as well.
“So in the last month in a half we have made 10,000 meals for people in need and throughout the community,” said Chris Penney, Manager at Art Van Furniture and Household Appliance. “Today we just donated a bunch of stuff with a partnership and Super One Foods where we donated a ton of stuff to D.J. Jacobetti Home for Veterans. Tonight we are participating in this event where we went out and bought a bunch of toys for kids in need.”
The event ended up being a full house with a lot of Christmas cheer. Thanks go out to all the local partnerships that were able to help make this yet another special event during the giving season.
