SANDS TOWNSHIP — On December 22, The Marquette County Sheriff’s Office responded to a two car personal injury crash near the intersection of M-553 and Stonegate Drive in Sands Township.
A 2000 Chevrolet Silverado pickup truck, driven by a 58-year-old Gwinn man, was southbound on M-553 when it crossed over the centerline and struck a northbound 2004 Ford Explorer head-on. The Explorer was driven by a 63-year-old woman from Farwell.
The male driver suffered non-life threatening injuries to his face and knee. He was transported to the UPHS Marquette ER for treatment and evaluation. The female driver was not injured. Both vehicles were totaled and had to be towed from the scene.
The crash remains under investigation. Based on witness statements, the cause seems to be careless driving. There were no other occupants in either vehicle.
