MARQUETTE — Local children had a chance to learn about healthy eating habits in a fun way.

On Tuesday, the Marquette Food Co-op hosted a free story time for children in Pre-k through third grade. The children were able to listen to author Krissy Emery read her book, The Paw-Paw Fruit does the Cha-Cha Scoot, learn about the health benefits of earth-grown fruits, and make a healthy snack.

“I have four children of my own and they were the inspiration behind writing my books. We used to go into the grocery stores and look for weird or interesting fruit and dissect it, smell it, taste it, eat it” said author, Krissy Emery. “It’s really special for me to be up here at the Co-op, interacting with the kids and teaching them a little bit about healthy eating.”

The Paw-Paw Fruit does the Cha-Cha Scoot features a unique fruit and is the first book released in Emery’s series. Her goal with each book is to make learning about nutrition and healthy-eating fun for children. For more information about Emery’s book visit and mission statement, click here.
