2018 Scrap Tire Cleanup Program hosted in Marquette
MARQUETTE COUNTY — The city of Marquette has received a 2018 Scrap Tire Cleanup Program Grant from the Michigan Department of Environmental Quality.
The tire collection process is on August 1st from 3 to 7 p.m. Collection crews at the Compost and Rubbish site, located at 1415 Pioneer Road, will collect tires and haul them to the landfill.
Individual residents may bring as many personal tires as they would like. Car and truck tires that are 22.5 inches in diameter or less (with or without rims) will be accepted.
Anything larger will not be accepted at the drop zone.
The overall goal is to relocate extra tires to help make space at local residences.
“It keeps them out of people’s garages and out of peoples yards,” said Director of Public Works, Scott Cambensy. “You know it kind of goes hand in hand with our rubbish drop off because it just allows people an easy way to dispose things. So their yards look very pleasing to the eye.”
Due to this special collection, household rubbish drop-off, which is also located at that site, will be unavailable on August 1st.
