MARQUETTE — Girls on the Run Upper Peninsula are hosting a 5K at Presque Isle Park this coming Sunday.

This event is to help raise money for the organization, Girls on the Run, where they help young girls with the pressures of today’s society. Registration for the 5K ends online Saturday at noon, but people will still be able to register the day of the event.

If you decide to register at the 5K the registration fee will cost slightly more. This program really helps build these young girls up and creates a positive outlook on life for them.

“It helps them build confidence, it helps them realize they have a voice and to listen to that voice,” said, Event Director of Girls on the Run, Sloan Dorr. “It helps them kind of just manage being a young girl in today’s society. So we are building strong girls and women.”

All money donated at the 5k will stay in Marquette helping the local Girls on the Run organization.
This will provide scholarships and help facilitate the girls who will be a part of the program next year.

Anyone is allowed to join in on the 5K event. The day of registration begins at 1:15 pm and the 5K starts at 1:30 pm on Sunday.
