Police enforcing Click it or Ticket campaign this weekend
MARQUETTE — Law enforcement across the U.P. are focusing on Seat Belt enforcement during the Click it or Ticket campaign from May 21st through June 3rd.
Buckling up can reduce the risk of serious injuries or death by 45 percent. In 2016, over 150 people in Michigan died in car accidents from not wearing a seatbelt.
“A lot of times you pull up to the scene of an accident and it looks kind of bad. The people who had their seatbelts on, a lot of times they only end up getting minor injuries. Where if they did not have a seatbelt on they could have been killed,” said Dan Willey, Undersheriff for Marquette County.
During Memorial Day weekend law enforcement is encouraging everyone to buckle up and give yourself plenty of room between you and the car in front of you. Most importantly have a safe and fun weekend.
