MUNISING — In its second year, a fundraising effort is looking to make an even bigger impact than last year.

The Alger County Community Collaborative (AC3) and Pictured Rocks Pizza are hosting their second annual Pizza for a Purpose event. All proceeds from Thursday’s and Friday’s Sales will go towards funding social work for Alger County Public Schools, as well as benefiting suicide prevention and education. People and businesses from all over the Upper Peninsula have been helping out, bringing the community together.

“We really appreciate their support for this great cause for our students, for our staff and our community,” said AC3 Executive Member Bobbi Ayotte. “And already this year, we have great support from all of them as well.”

“Schools are limited in the amount of money they have to hire social workers,” said Munising Public Schools Superintendent Pete Kelto. “We didn’t have one prior to this year. We’ve been fortunate enough, through these fundraising efforts, to have a social worker here two days a week.”

Last year, over 850 pizzas were sold, and the AC3 and Pictured Rocks Pizza are hoping to sell more. For more information, stop into or call Pictured Rocks Pizza at (906) 387-5700 or visit the AC3 Facebook Page.
