NEGAUNEE — May 5th is empty the shelters day all across Michigan and UPAWS will be participating as well.

The event is put on by Bissell foundation where they are working with multiple animal shelters in the Upper Peninsula. They are paying for all adoption fees for any pet that is participating in the event. The fees being paid include Spayed or neuter, vaccines, rabies immunizations, micro-chipping and health checks.

“You know it’s great because everybody gets busy in the summer and it’s good to shine the lime light on animals that need homes,” said Community Outreach and Volunteer Coordinator, Ann Brownell. “Get a buddy that you might want to go walking with or a kitty you want to hang out with. It’s always a good time to adopt.

Many adult cats and dogs are currently being housed at the shelter and awaiting to find their new dream home. UPAWS is open from noon to five tomorrow for the event.
