Two Wakefield residents earn Distinguished Citizen Awards
WAKEFIELD — The Michigan State Police Wakefield Post presented two Distinguished Citizen Awards to young residents.
Austin Ahonen and Mike Sibley, Jr. were snowmobiling and found a wallet on Sunday Lake in Wakefield. The young men, who are 9th and 8th grade students at Wakefield-Marenisco School District, brought the wallet and contents to the Wakefield Post. They dropped off the wallet prior to giving their names.
The owner of the wallet, from Milwaukee, Wisconsin, was pleasantly surprised to learn that the contents of the wallet, including $280 in cash, were intact. Although it took awhile to identify the young men, the Michigan State Police want to honor their integrity and willingness to do the right thing by turning in the wallet and contents to the police.
