Wisconsin woman dead following snowmobile accident
BESSEMER — A 51 year-old Wisconsin woman is dead following a snowmobile accident Friday.
The Gogebic County Sheriff’s Department responded to reports of a snowmobile accident near Powderhorn Road in Bessemer just north of U.S. 2 around 11:30 a.m. The initial investigation revealed that a group of snowmobiles was traveling southbound in the unplowed right of way when the victim, Michele M. Megard of Hudson, WI, lost control of her snowmobile and rolled into a ditch.
She was subsequently struck by another member of her group. The victim was transported to Aspirus Ironwood Hospital by Beacon Ambulance where she was pronounced dead.
Alcohol is not believed to be a factor in the incident, but the investigation is ongoing. Deputies on the scene were assisted by Michigan State Police Wakefield Post.
