Driver loses control of vehicle on icy road, causes accident

NEGAUNEE TOWNSHIP — Police reported that roads were very slippery this morning. As a result, several motorists misjudged the road conditions and crashed or ended up in a ditch.

This was the case for two drivers in Negaunee Township on Friday. The Marquette County Sheriff’s Department responded to a two-vehicle minor injury crash along U.S. 41 and Industrial Park Drive just before noon.

A 2004 GMC SUV, driven by 27 year-old Jesse Dupont of Ishpeming, was traveling eastbound on U.S. 41 just west of the railroad overpass. Dupont started to pass another vehicle, a 2014 Dodge pickup truck driven by 39 year-old Thomas Snow of Marquette, when he lost control of the vehicle. The SUV then side-swept Snow’s truck, causing Snow to lose control of his vehicle.

Dupont’s vehicle hit the impact guard rail for the overpass and then came to rest in the medium on the east side of the overpass. Snow’s vehicle slid across the westbound lanes and hit the north face of a westbound guard rail.

A 6 year-old in the back of Snow’s vehicle complained of a sore back, but no other injuries were reported in the accident. Dupont was shown to be at fault for the crash and was cited for driving too fast for conditions.
