MARQUETTE — It’s a tragedy for book-lovers – Book World announced that all of their bookstores will be closing across the Midwest.

All locations, including Marquette, Houghton and five other stores in the Upper Peninsula, will be closing their doors on January 15th. According to an article by Publisher’s Weekly, senior vice president Mark Dupont said sales have been plummeting for the last twelve months and continue to drop. Dupont attributed the decline to the market’s shift towards e-books and e-commerce in general.

Staff at both Marquette and Houghton locations declined to comment. Liquidation sales will begin on November 2nd at all locations.
