UPAWS receives $100,000 gift
What was once an optimistic dream for a local pet shelter is now inching closer to becoming a reality.
The Upper Peninsula Animal Welfare Shelter received a one–hundred thousand dollar gift when it held its annual Cause for the paws gala. The gift was donated to the “Imagine the Pawsibilities” campaign for a new shelter.
“We’ve been working really really hard to get it constructed and to fundraise for it, and this makes a huge difference for us,” said UPAWS Executive Director Kori Tossava.
With the recent gift, two point six two million dollars have been donated. The goal is to raise three–point–seven million dollars.
“After what seems like years and years of dreaming about a new shelter to finally see it start to take shape is just very exciting for all of us here,” said Tossava.
The donors do not want any recognition. The new shelter is expected to be completed by the summer of twenty–eighteen.
