Food truck feeds 300+ families in need
ISHPEMING — People in need of food in order to feed themselves and their families were able to do just that Thursday, thanks to a generous donation from Gauthier Insurance, who helped sponsor a Feeding America Food Truck that came to Ishpeming filled with 15,000 lbs. of food.
People arrived to St. Joseph’s Church just after 9:00 a.m. to take home a big basket of food. Fresh fruits, vegetables, rolls, and freezable edibles were among the items available.
Event organizer Diane Gauthier says they usually plan to give away food to 150-200 people. But today, over 300 people showed up looking for food to take home.
“To be on the giving end is a blessing. It’s really a blessing to the people here. We all go home really humbled,” said Gauthier. “We have some great volunteers. We get the Ishpeming High School kids that come every month and they carry; these boxes get really heavy,” she added.
Gauthier Insurance has been involved in sponsoring food trucks once a month for Ishpeming and the surrounding areas since January. For more information about Feeding America, click HERE.
