Food Truck returns to the Upper Peninsula
ISHPEMING — Hundreds of people lined Third Street Thursday morning in Ishpeming to get a basket of food from the Feeding America Food Truck.
Gauthier Insurance sponsored the contents of the food truck. The insurance company has been doing this since last fall.
15,000 lbs. of food- fresh fruits, vegetables, potatoes and more- were distributed to people in need. Volunteers from Ishpeming High School, Gauthier Insurance, the local VFW and Cross Bridge Church passed out the food that will help feed 1,000 people.
“It breaks my heart to have to watch families have no food,” said Tyler Gauthier of Gauthier Insurance. “It’s a necessity in life. There’s a couple things that people should have in life: shelter and food. It’s something they shouldn’t go without. A lot of times it’s not in their cabinets, so someone has to be there to do it. We feel the need that we have the ability to do it so why not do it.”
Another food truck will make an appearance in Marquette later this month. We will pass along dates and times for that truck once they’re made available.
