Suspect arrested after attempting to force woman in vehicle
IRON RIVER — A suspect was arrested for several felony offenses including, unlawful imprisonment and criminal sexual conduct second degree.
On March 17th around 2:40 P.M., officers of the Iron River Police Department were dispatched to the Lake Shores Motel in Iron River for an assault complaint. Through an investigation at the scene, officers determined that suspect arrested, Nickolas Anthony Johnathan Goebel, 30, attempted to force a female into a vehicle and committed a sexual assault against her.
Witnesses at the scene came to the victim’s aid and stopped the suspect before calling 911. After being transported to the Aspirus Emergency Room in Iron River for treatment, the suspect was lodged in the Iron County Jail. Goebel was arraigned on Monday with a $50,000 cash bond.
According to the Iron River Police Department, the situation could have been much worse if not for the help of good citizens who helped the victim and called 911. Interim Chief Roy D’Antonio would like to thank the witnesses, the Iron River County Sheriff’s Department, the Michigan State Police Troopers, and EMS Personnel for their assistance.
