UPDATE: Driver cited in head-on collision

CHOCOLAY TOWNSHIP– Mother Nature has made it extremely difficult to maneuver across the U.P. today. Slick roads and whiteout conditions were a factor in a head-on accident that injured five people this morning in Chocolay Township.

Two full-size pickup trucks collided on US-41 near Green Garden Road just before 9:00 a.m. A 2001 pickup truck driven by a 24-year-old Skandia man heading north crossed the center line and into the path of a southbound pickup driven by a 68-year-old Marquette man.

The Chocolay Township Fire Department brought out the Jaws of Life to help get people out of both vehicles. All five people involved in the accident were taken to UP Health System – Marquette for treatment of non-life threatening injuries.

The Skandia man was cited in the accident.
