Police arrest man in possession of a concealed weapon on school grounds
HOUGHTON — Houghton Elementary School went into lockdown Monday morning after police discovered a man in the school parking lot had a concealed weapon in his possession.
Officers with the Houghton City Police Department were dispatched to the school just before nine thirty this morning on the report of a suspicious person. Through their investigation, officers arrested a 30-year-old man for possession of marijuana and carrying a concealed weapon.
The school went into a shelter in place situation for the safety of the children. Police say the suspect never made any threats towards the school.
The suspect will be arraigned Tuesday in Houghton County District Court.
