UPDATE — Thursday, September 15, 2016 7:00 a.m. EDT

The names of the three kayakers involved in the accident in Munising Bay Tuesday afternoon have been released.

Jim Farrington, 52, of Alden, Michigan, Tolan Annis, 52, of Eagle, Michigan and Sean Royston, 47, of Cottage Grove, Wisconsin started a kayak trip from Sand Point Tuesday morning with the intentions of reaching Mosquito Beach. Before they even made it to Castle Rock, high winds and large waves overturned the three kayaks.

Royston, who had been afloat for a few hours, made his way back to Sand Point beach and was able to contact 911. He explained that there were two others still in the lake, one near Cliff Face.

The U.S. Coast Guard was dispatched to the scene and requested a helicopter from Traverse City. Farrington was located between Sand Point and Miners Castle. He was removed from the water via helicopter upon its arrival.

The search for Annis continued for several hours before he was finally able to contact police around 8:00 p.m. All three men were transported to the hospital, but their conditions remain unknown at this time.

Officials are reminding kayakers to be check the lake conditions before setting off on a trip and to be prepared for any possible conditions.
