Salvation Army gives out trees and toys to those in need
MARQUETTE — The holidays are considered a time for giving, and an organization in Marquette is offering a special gift to those in need.
Thanks to a donation from Lowe’s, the Marquette Salvation Army has some real live Christmas trees ready to be taken back to a happy holiday home. While many of the trees have already been claimed, it’s not too late to pick one up.
“They don’t have to sign up for the trees. All they have to do is come and get them, put them on their car, and take them away,” said Cyndy Rankinen, a Case Manager at the Salvation Army in Marquette. “We got about forty to fifty, and it looks like we’ve given about half of them away thus far. So we’d like to see the rest of them gone. Please, come and get a Christmas tree.”
For those looking to put some gifts under that tree, the Salvation Army’s food pantry is also giving away toys to families in need. The toy distribution lasts until tomorrow at 3:00 p.m. Donations are still welcomed as well.
“For some reason, we are inundated with boys’ toys, but if anyone is still willing to donate, we sure need girls’ toys,” Rankinen added.
To find how to sign up for the toy distribution, you can contact the Salvation Army at (906) 225-2241.
