Shoppers hit the stores for Black Friday deals

MARQUETTE TOWNSHIP — After the big Thanksgiving meal, it’s become a tradition for many to hit the stores in search of some big deals.

Best Buy in Marquette Township was open through a busy Thanksgiving night, and it reopened again Friday with some fresh early–morning doorbuster sales. Slippery roads didn’t dampen the spirit of the season for those looking for a bargain.

“Everybody has been smiling, cheerful, in the holiday spirit,” said Steven McCoy, General Manager of the Best Buy in Marquette Township.

“So far, so good. Roads are a little icy, but other than that it’s pretty good,” said Neal, a shopper from Republic.

“I would say that every year there are the hot priced TVs that most folks come in looking for,” added McCoy. “It can change year over year, but I can say for the most part, TVs are the hottest buys.”

Cell phones, tablets, and video game consoles were other items popular with shoppers.

For those who hadn’t had their fill of turkey and stuffing, Ron’s Taco Shop was on hand to provide a different style of Thanksgiving feast.

“It’s our first year being out here for Black Friday,” said Rigel Pihlainen, owner of Ron’s Taco Shop. “People are really happy that we’re here. It gives them something — it’s two birds with one stone — come do some shopping, pick up a couple tacos, and then they’re on their way.”

Being one of the only places open to buy food late Thursday night helped keep the taco truck quite busy. Bargain hunters who may have missed out on Black Friday sales will have more chances to score holiday shopping deals online with Cyber Monday just around the corner.
