Wet weather can’t discourage kids from celebrating Halloween
HOUGHTON — Halloween in the Keweenaw is kicking off with a downtown Trick–or–Treat event.
A little rain won’t stop these kids from getting their Halloween treats. Despite the weather, hundreds of costumed families filled the streets of downtown Houghton for Treat Street.
“Treat Street has been going on for seven years now. It gets bigger every year. Last year I was told we had over 2,000 kids show up and attend,” said Lieutenant Nick Roberts, of the Houghton Police Department.
The annual event invites families to trick–or–treat at the downtown businesses. Many parents were just as involved as the kids, dressed up in costumes and braving the rain with smiles.
Lieutenant Roberts has advice for trick–or–treaters on Halloween night
“Be careful, wear bright colors. Don’t wear anything too scary. Have some flashlights or some fluorescent lights so people can see the kids on the roads. We will have our firefighters out for trick–or–treating on Halloween. But, parents just be advised, watch your kids, make sure they’re not running out into traffic and be safe,” added Roberts.
