Movie about the U.P. premieres close to home
NEGAUNEE — So many of the movies that we watch are Hollywood productions, but one that hits a little closer to home premiered Tuesday night at the Historic Vista Theater in Negaunee.
This is the third stop on the tour for Superior, the Movie. The film was written and directed by Edd Benda, a Michigan native with roots in the U.P. Benda was inspired by a trip his uncle took on a bicycle around Lake Superior in the late sixties.
“I was so inspired by a time and place where adventures like that were possible that it really kind of snowballed into the story that became Superior the Movie,” said Benda, “I think it…showcases the U.P. and Michigan in the best light. I’m from Michigan and I love this state, I love the natural beauty and I love that anywhere that we could point the camera, it was going to be gorgeous. When people see that on screen, it resonates with them. This is their home and we’re showing it for the wonderful place that it is.”
If you missed the showing Tuesday, Superior will be played again Wednesday at Northern Michigan University at 8:30 P.M. and again Thursday at Michigan Tech at 7:00 P.M.
