Ishpeming looks to stay undefeated as they battle Negaunee

ISHPEMING — The Hematites football team had a vacation of some sorts with a much needed bye week before they prepare for a big matchup against Negaunee.

Sorry, there are no polls available at the moment.

Ishpeming is undefeated at 5–0 and last week, they were idle, getting a chance to heal up before they take on the Miners tomorrow. But Coach Jeff Olson is a little worried about some possible rust the players might have.

“Hopefully we didn’t lose our spark. We were playing pretty good football at that time. Hopefully that layoff didn’t set us back at all where the kids relax a little bit. It’s a two–edged sword. We got a little bit of extra time to prepare for Negaunee, couple kids with bumps and bruises got to heal a little bit so right now we’re hoping we’re not going to be looking for a letdown,” Olson said.

“It was good for me because I got to relax a little bit and get better physically and just recover from the last few weeks. And same with the whole team, we got to get a little healthier, recover and also get a little more practice in without having the stress of a game on Friday night,” said Finegan.

One player they’re hoping heals up quick is quarterback Ozzy Corp and Coach Olson provided an update on his condition.

“Well, we’re hoping he’s at full strength. He tweaked an ankle last night in practice so now we’re going to monitor that. We’re hoping the rest brings him to full strength. We think he will be so that’s the good news. But you never can tell with two injuries like he had. One hit and he could be back to the same way,” said Olson.

Kickoff for the game is scheduled for 7 p.m. at Hematite Field.
