Ishpeming Board of Education approves sinking fund
ISHPEMING — The Ishpeming School District is making some improvements and that was the topic of discussion at tonight’s board meeting.
The board voted tonight to approve the Building Sinking Fund for the upcoming school year. The fund amounts to around $300,000 per year.
“The sinking fund funds many projects. We’re fortunate to have it. It’s voter approved [and] we use it for building and maintenance projects that come up. For example if a boiler goes in a building, you’d have that as a backup,” said John Summerhill, Superintendent of the Ishpeming Public School District.
This year the fund is helping to pay for construction on Birchview elementary school. In addition, the High School is getting some new windows. Later on in the year, there’s plans in the works to add a new common area as well as a new kitchen and cafeteria.
