Marquette Commons ice rink opens for free skating
MARQUETTE — The cold wintry conditions are perfect for a certain outdoor activity. The Upper Peninsula now has prime ice skating weather.
The Marquette Commons ice rink opened for the season Friday. The rink is free of charge, and it’s open from noon until 8:00 p.m., Thursdays through Sundays, weather permitting.
You need to bring your own skates, but the warming house is open for a chance to get out of the cold.
“The maintenance guys are just about done with that and it should be ready to go,” Marquette DDA events and promotions coordinator Tara Laase–McKinney said. “We’ll have the warming portion open, as well as the bathrooms. Bring your skates, bring your friends and family, and have a good time skating.”
You can also skate there at other times. However, the ice is only guaranteed to be groomed during those hours. The warming house may not be open outside of those hours either.
