Ford Field Bound! Munising beats Beal City
MARQUETTE, Mich. – The Munising Mustangs made the key plays when they needed to Friday night, as they were able to defeat Beal City, 10-7 in a MHSAA Division 8 semifinal game at the Superior Dome.
The game was scoreless at halftime. In the third quarter, Mustangs running back Garrett Blank scored on a 62-yard run to give Munising a 7-0 lead. Beal City responded on the ensuing kickoff, as Chase Rollin returned the kick 99-yards to tie the game at 7-7.
Munising regained the lead in the fourth quarter thanks to a 33-yard field goal from Andy Cooper. The Aggies drove down the field and entered the red zone for the first time with under three minutes left. On 4th and 7 from the Mustangs 16-yard line, Beal City quarterback Tucker Gross went to the end zone for Brad Moore, but Colin Immel was there to break up the pass.
Garrett Blank iced the game with a 23-yard run on 2nd and 14 from inside the Munising 10-yard line. The Mustangs are headed back to a state championship game for the first time since 1980.
Munising will play in the Division 8 State Championship game against Harbor Beach or Muskegon Catholic Central. That game will be played Saturday at 1pm at Alma College.
