Room at the Inn debuts Warming Center in Marquette
The Room at the Inn has added a Warming Center to their operation, designed to provide those in need with a warm place to have breakfast.
The shelter hosted an open house Wednesday at the center, which is located on Washington St. in Marquette. Pastors from area churches were invited to come take a look, but anyone was welcome to come and peek about.
Helen McCormick, a co-founder of Room at the Inn, said, “We’re very proud of this building. We spent a lot of time and a lot of money getting it ready, so we want people to be able to see it.”
Because those who stay at the shelter must leave by 6 a.m. each weekday, the Warming Center will be open until 10 a.m. to provide a hot meal.
The Room at the Inn is always seeking volunteers willing to donate a few hours a day, whether at the shelter or the Warming Center.
“As Christians we’re asked to take care of our fellow man,” McCormick said, “and one of the ways we can help is to help the homeless. You may not think we have a lot of homeless people, but we do. Our shelter is full already and it’s only October.”
The shelter offers free training for those who wish to volunteer on the third Thursday of every month.
