Get ready to Strut Your Mutt in Marquette
NEGAUNEE TOWNSHIP — Dog lovers will be strutting their stuff Saturday in Marquette for the ninth annual Strut Your Mutt walk.
It’s the Upper Peninsula Animal Welfare Shelter’s biggest fundraiser of the year. Participants raise money by gathering pledges, making the event a community-wide and grassroots effort.
“It’s wonderful to see to the community coming together,” event chair Ann Brownell said. “They always come together for UPAWS, but this event has just grown and grown and people look forward to it every year.”
“It’s a friendly competition also because we have prizes for first, second, and third adults and first, second, and third youth so the top pledge raisers get prizes but they also get the honor of being Top Dog.”
In addition to the walk, there will be pet vendors, costume contests, and raffles.
“Every year, more and more people get excited about it and more pet vendors want to participate, and we have raffles,” Brownell said. “We have businesses that give free goodies in the morning, free coffee, and there’s just a lot of people that like to participate in this because it is a really fun event.”
Participants can still register for Strut Your Mutt, and the walk stats at 10 a.m. Saturday at Mattson Lower Harbor Park.
