Circus prepares for double bill show at Al Quaal
The Culpepper & Merriweather Circus is performing tonight at the Al Quaal Recreation Area in Ishpeming and they offered a look at how they put up the big tent this morning.
The tent went up at 9:30 and a member of the circus was on hand to explain how it gets lifted. He also showed off some of the four-legged animals that are part of the show, which he described as traditional.
“Not only do we get to bring an amazing American tradition to different people who might not have had a chance to see a real circus before, but we do it in an amazing traditional way,” said Leo Acton, who served as the guide while the tent was put up and performs as a clown in the show. “We do the classic push-pull big top that you can come out and see for yourself go up in the morning, you can see how we live our lifestyle, but also we get to experience what you guys have as well. We get to see all the amazing parts of our country that most folks don’t get a chance to get out and go see.”
The circus features two golden tabby tigers and a black mane African lion.
The first show began at 5 with ABC 10’s own Mike Hoey serving as guest ringmaster. ABC 10’s Jerry Taylor will step up as guest ringmaster for the 7:30 p.m. show.
Pony rides, inflatables and concessions will be available an hour before the gates open.
