Marquette General joins one of nation’s leading heart care programs

Anyone needing heart-related medical care has just received some good news from Marquette General Hospital today.

MGH has joined the Duke Heart Network, one of America’s leading cardiovascular programs. Marquette General officials sought to join the network ever since Duke LifePoint Healthcare bought the hospital in the fall of 2012.

“To be associated with the cardiovascular team of Duke University Medical Center, a medical center which is one of the top 10 in the country and has been for 20 years, promises to help us stay ahead of the crest of the wave in terms of what we bring heart patients and vascular care patients,” MGH chief medical officer Dr. Thomas Noren said.

The network will expand the cardiovascular care available at MGH. It also expands training opportunities for MGH’s cardiovascular team, both in Marquette and at Duke University in North Carolina.

“Our goal is to work with the terrific team that’s already here in place to enhance the cardiovascular care that’s provided in the region,” Duke Heart Network chief medical officer Dr. Harry Phillips said. “We can share best practices. We can learn from one another. We can help build new programs. We can, together, work to build on the excellent quality that’s already here.”

Duke Heart Network officials were visiting MGH today for an education conference. MGH officials also visited North Carolina this week as part of a quality oversight procedure before announcing that the hospital would join the heart network.
