Veterans healthcare conference simulcast at NMU
Wayne State University hosted a conference regarding the healthcare of military veterans today that was simulcast to various universities including NMU.
The Area Health Education Center put the conference together for health care professionals such as physicians, nurses and social workers. The conference clinicians spoke on topics to help the professionals in attendance correspond with and help returning veterans.
Cindy Noble, Program Manager for the U.P. division of AHEC, said, “They’re going to need to be able to understand and look for signs or issues of returning veterans that are coming back such as mental health issues; things that they can help identify and put in their records and also for proper referrals.”
Subjects the clinicians spoke about included military culture, VA eligibility and enrollment and behavioral health issues.
The conference ran from 7:30 a.m. to noon and attendees ranged from social workers, social work students, military veterans and health care professionals.
