NMU students celebrated for hard work and research
Several NMU undergraduate and graduate students were celebrated today as they displayed and presented research they’ve been working on for some time.
The 19th Annual Celebration of Student Research, Creative Works, and Academic Service Learning featured 60 poster presentations, 27 oral presentations and three art displays.
These projects get students out of the classroom, engaging them in active learning. They’re also a great addition to any portfolio.
Brian Cherry, Assistant Provost of Graduate Education & Research, said, “I think this is one of those things that we do best at Northern Michigan University where the students get a hands on experience with their faculty; faculty get to know them as individuals. This allows them to write letters of recommendation for grad school or employment. It really does give them a leg up when they graduate; and going on to that next realm.”
Cherry said students of the sciences are very active in these projects, though they’ve seen a rise in participation from students in health and public services.
The event kicked off with several students receiving awards for their achievements.
