The Mineshaft Bowling Alley in Houghton is the place to be Saturday for the 22nd annual Bowl for Kids.

U.P. Kids Big Brothers Big Sisters hosts the event and it is the only fundraiser that they sponsor each year to support local mentoring programs in the community.

“We’re helping to provide new perspectives for them, different perspectives on life so they can move forward and reach their full potential.  As a result, we have stronger, healthier young people in our community and they are contributing to society,” Big Brothers Big Sisters program director Maggie Munch said.

Bowl for Kids is an event that goes on all across the country.

Munch said they are expecting a great turnout for the event.

“At this point in time, we have 39 teams signed up, which is more than last year. We have over 200 bowlers who are registered to participate on Saturday,” she said.  “We just wanted something fun and easy that anybody could do.  And it really isn’t about the bowling.  It’s about having fun for a good cause.  The day on Saturday is more of a celebration and a thank you.”

Registration is still open for those who want to participate and simple donations are also accepted. For more information, visit upkids.com.
