Cruise to benefit Lake Superior’s nat’l parks
The National Parks of Lake Superior Foundation is holding a special fundraising event Thursday night on the waters around Marquette.
The event is called Party for the Parks! It is a two-hour narrated cruise aboard the historic Isle Royale Queen III.
Passengers will get a beautiful view of the landscapes and architecture of the Marquette coast, and maybe even learn a fact or two during the voyage.
“We were formed to raise money to support the five national parks that are on Lake Superior,” National Parks of Lake Superior Foundation Vice-Chair Lynn Moon said. “People on the cruise will learn a little bit about the five parks, which include Pictured Rocks, Apostle Islands, Keweenaw National Historical Park, Grand Portage National Monument, and of course, Isle Royale.”
The cruise will provide information about the projects and needs of those parks. There will even be a live auction during the cruise with proceeds going to the foundation.
“Our national parks are one of the best kept secrets of the area, because it’s free to go into one of our five national parks on Lake Superior,” Moon said. “And they’re beautiful, I mean every one of them has unique features and cultural heritage that are very interesting.”
Tickets for the cruise can be purchased at Down Wind Sports in Marquette or purchased at the Ellwood Mattson Lower Harbor.
The cruise leaves port at 6 p.m.
