Laurium streets to be repaired
One town in the Copper Country is getting a complete makeover. ABC Ten’s Keweenaw Reporter Rick Allen says that this is a case of “Out with the new and in with the old”.
The streets of downtown Laurium will never be the same.
A reconstruction of M-26 that runs through the heart of the business district will begin in May.
Representatives from M-DOT met with residents and business owners to explain the project and the impact detours will have on the area.
Parts of Lake Linden Avenue, Hecla Street, Third Street, and Oceola Street will all be done.
Laurium was once hailed as the largest incorporated village in the country…with its beginnings stretching back to the late 1800’s.
And the pride can still be sensed in its residents…with the downtown makeover…there’s hope that revitalization will follow.
