History of Finlandia University
An event to honor the long history of one of the Copper Country’s oldest schools was held in Hancock. ABC Ten’s Keweenaw Bureau Reporter Rick Allen was there.
The celebration of Hancock’s 150th anniversary continues with events throughout the year. At the Finnish American Heritage Center, a slide slow presentation was used to illustrate the history of Suomi College, now known as Finlandia University.
The city of Hancock is hosting several events like this one to commemorate their Sesquicentennial.
And Suomi College and Finlandia University have been very much a part of Hancock for the last 117 years. The next Hancock Sesquicentennial event is March 26th featuring a history of Hancock fires with Hancock Fire Department Captain Mark Dennis.
