Winter weather advisory

The U.P. is in the midst of yet another winter storm. Most schools across Keweenaw, Houghton, Marquette and Alger are closed today, many other areas cancelled classes for the day.

2-5 inches of snow is being reported across most of the region, with select areas reporting more snow. Additional snowfall and increasing winds are expected.

And, although the snowfall for this winter season has been below average, many areas are still getting plenty of attention from Mother Nature.

A winter weather advisory has been issued for much of the Upper Peninsula for today and tomorrow, and most areas can expect to see quite a bit of snowfall.

High winds will also be a factor during most of the night and into the day tomorrow, likely reaching the 30-miles-per-hour mark.

With this kind of weather, National Weather Service meteorologist Todd Kluber it’s always important to bundle up if you’re outside and to use extreme caution when driving.

He says the Marquette, Negaunee, and Ishpeming areas can expect anywhere from three to five inches of snowfall.

Areas closer to Lake Superior may reach six to 10 inches of accumulation as the winter system passes through.
