Two snowmobile accidents in Keweenaw Co.
Two people were injured after two separate accidents in Keweenaw County Thursday afternoon.
The Keweenaw County Sheriff’s Department says the first accident happened around 3 p.m. on Trail No. 3, Brockway Mountain Drive, near M-26 in Copper Harbor.
Walter Glenn, of Palatine, Illinois, was riding northbound on a trail approaching a “T” intersection. He was unable to negotiate a corner, and drove off the trail hitting a snow berm. Glenn was ejected from the snowmobile and struck a tree.
He was treated on scene by the Copper Harbor First Responders, and then transported to Aspirus Keweenaw Hospital by Mercy Ambulance with leg injuries.
A second snowmobile accident happened near Phoenix on Trail No. 124 near Trail No. 3.
June Schraufnagel, 54, of Dollar Bay, was rounding a corner northbound on the trail when she was struck by another snowmobile that crossed into her path. That snowmobile was driven by Matthew Robins, 34, of Laingsburg.
Schraufnagel was transported to Aprirus Keweenaw Hospital by Mercy Ambulance for the treatment of unknown injuries.
Robins was cited for Failing to Use Due Care and Caution.
The Keweenaw County Sheriff’s Department was assisted on scene by Allouez Township First Responders and the Ahmeek Village VFD rescue unit.
Alcohol was not a factor in either accident.
