More Details Out About Murder & Police Shooting
Police release the names of the 2 people involved in the murder and police shooting in Baraga County last week.
23-year-old Chelsea LaFernier of Baraga was the young woman stabbed to death on the Keweenaw Bay Indian Community reservation.
It happened Thursday night.
LaFernier was a KBIC member.
Police were looking for 23-year-old Raymond Silas.
State troopers say after leaving the scene, Silas told several people that he’d killed LaFernier.
Police found him driving on US-41.
He crashed the car near Alberta and ignored verbal commands to surrender.
Silas is said to have then lunged at an arresting officer, causing the trooper to shoot him.
Silas died on the way to Baraga County Memorial Hospital.
State police from both the Calumet and Negaunee posts are looking into the police shooting.
KBIC tribal police, and Marquette-based FBI agents, are investigating the murder.
