KINGSFORD — Thanks to the quick responses by public safety officers, a structure fire in Kingsford was quickly contained early Tuesday morning.

Officers from Kingsford Public Safety say they responded to a structure fire on the 400 block of Fulton Street in Kingsford at 5:45 a.m.

It was determined that the fire was in the basement of the structure as flames were coming from the basement window. The fire was extinguished within 15 minutes of officers arriving on scene.

The fire was started by the resident who was smoking in a chair in the basement. The fire was contained to the chair and the area surrounding it, leaving minimal damage to the residence.

No injuries were reported. The resident was checked and released by Beacon Ambulance.

Iron Mountain Police Department, Beacon Ambulance, Wisconsin Electric and DTE assisted Kingsford Public Safety on scene.
