Two killed in head-on collision on US-2
WAUCEDAH TOWNSHIP — According to Dickinson County Sheriff Scott Rutter, at approximately 2:41 p.m. on January 23, deputies were dispatched to a two-vehicle accident on US-2 near Alfredson Road in Waucedah Township.
Based on the investigation, a black 2013 Chevrolet Equinox was traveling westbound on US-2 when it crossed the center line. The Equinox then struck head-on a white 2017 GMC Sierra that was towing an enclosed snowmobile trailer. After impact, the vehicles came to rest on the south shoulder of US-2.
The two occupants of the Sierra, both from Suamico, Wisconsin, were transported to Dickinson County Memorial Hospital to be treated for non life-threatening injuries. The two occupants of the Equinox, a 56-year-old male and a 59-year-old female from Tripler, Wisconsin, were pronounced dead at the scene. Speed and road conditions appear to be the cause of the accident.
The Sheriff’s Office was assisted at the scene by the Michigan State Police Iron Mountain Post, Norway Police Department, the Menominee County Sheriff’s Office, Integrity Care EMS, Norway Fire Department, Hermansville Rescue, Dickinson County Road Commission, Dickinson County Sheriff’s Office Victim’s Advocate Unit, and Joe’s and LR Vincent wreckers. The accident remains under investigation.
