UPAWS is partnering with Fox Marquette for free pet adoption event

MARQUETTE — This Wednesday a local no-kill animal shelter will be partnering with an area car dealership to put on a free pet adoption event.

UPAWS, or the Upper Peninsula Animal Welfare Shelter, is teaming up once again with Fox Marquette on October 28. Find a Friend with Fox will take place from 2:00 p.m. to 6:00 p.m. at Fox Marquette.

All pets adopted at the dealership during that time will be fully paid for by Fox.

“We’ll bring all the animals that we can possibly have over there that can handle the crowd, and Fox will pay for all of the adoptions that day,” said Ann Brownell, Community Outreach and Volunteer Coordinator. “It’s going to be fun and kind of a Halloween theme. We’re having puppies, kittens, dogs, cats, bunnies, and guinea pigs. And all of those are also included with Fox paying for the adoption.”

Some animals at UPAWS aren’t quite up to the big crowd expected to come out for Wednesday’s adoption event. However, those animals won’t be left out. Fox and UPAWS made sure that every animal at the shelter has the opportunity to find their new home.

“What’s cool is that Fox doesn’t forget the animals that don’t go to the actual car dealership that day,” said Brownell. “Some animals are just too nervous or too rambunctious, so they stay here or in foster care. So you’ll head to Fox, and if there’s not an animal there, we’re going to give you a coupon. You can then come to UPAWS and from 2:00 until 6:00 with that coupon, and Fox will pay for all the animals that are here too.”

UPAWS hosts free pet adoption events every year, and they are expecting a large turnout on Wednesday.
