Man fights off attacker with broom at Hoppy’s Bar in Kenton
HOUGHTON COUNTY — At approximately 9:40 a.m. Deputies from Houghton County Sheriff’s Office were dispatched to Hoppy’s Bar in Kenton for an Assault with a Knife.
It was later determined that a 70-year-old male from Kenton went into the bar and brandished a knife, threatening an employee.
The employee fought off the male with a broom and was able to escape. The male was apprehended a short time later and then lodged in the Houghton County Jail on charges of felonious assault.
The suspects name is being held pending arraignment in the 97th District Court. The Houghton County Sheriff’s Office was assisted by Michigan State Police troopers from the Calumet and Wakefield Posts, along with deputies from the Ontonagon County Sheriff’s Office.
